We have been asked many times why we continued to work with Karl Lueders as our buyers agent when things were going so poorly, why did we trust him? We asked ourselves this many times as well and here’s the truth.:
(1) Ignorance, pure and simple. As first-time home buyers we honestly didn’t always know when things weren’t happening the way they should. A perfect example, at closing we did not know it wasn’t normal for seller & buyer to have separate closings so why would we suspect that Karl Lueders did something shady and told them that we requested it.
(2) Emotions, pure and simple. This will sound silly to some, but we are big “dog people,” our dog is our child. Karl Lueders is the same way so we instantly felt a bond. We also instantly felt extremely sympathetic because one of his dogs was very sick and we knew he was very upset about this. So at times when we were frustrated and disappointed, or even suspicious of him we would think… well, he’s got a lot on his mind because his dog is in chemo and not doing well. Things like that..
Many, many people have suggested that Karl Lueders knew this was a weak spot for us and played on our emotions, because that’s what salesmen do. Even after all that has happened we find this a hard pill to swallow and still maintain that his emotions and teary eyes when he would talk about his dog were real. Nobody could be that low. Maybe we’re still naive.
That’s it, those are the reasons and for us those two things combined was enough to get us in this mess. It caused us to trust the wrong person, Karl Lueders. Yes, we are still kicking ourselves, yes we are paying for our mistake every day as we spend every dollar and every waking moment trying to make lemonade from lemons, and yes, next time we’ll know better.
